Flowers have long been the object of obsession and fascination for all people from all areas. Flowers have specifically been bred for their beauty and nature. Flowers have also often become the subject of many poems and songs. Girls often carry flowers as a name such as “Rose” or “Lily”, the 60’s and 70’s were extremely popular for these types of names. Flowers have always been a source of good cheer and happy thoughts.
 
The background of flowers comes from long ago and flowers quite often carry a specific meaning. There are a few examples of some flowers and their meanings within this article.
 
Asters have over 600 species with the most popular being the Monte Casino. Ancient societies once believed that the leaves carried an odor when burnt that would drive away snakes or serpents. In today’s world, giving an aster represents the lack of faith in a person as to say, “I am not sure whether or not you have been faithful to me”. A red carnation signifies an aching of the heart for another. A pink carnation means availability to another. The proper meaning of a carnation is fascination and devoted love.
 
A chrysanthemum is an ancient flower and has been around for nearly 3000 years. It is generally grown in Chinese gardens; the name originates from the Greek words chrysos that means gold and Anthos that means flower, thus “Gold Flower”. Some of the meanings with the flower consist of Innocence, cheerfulness and loyal love.
 
Roses, one of the oldest flowers around, have been around for at least 200 million years. These flowers carry an enormous amount of meanings and symbols. The most common meaning is one of love, for example, the red rose symbolizes never-ending love. Depending upon the color a rose can mean many things. A red rose means I love you or unconscious beauty. A white rose carries Spiritual Love and Purity as its meanings. A yellow rose symbolizes joy and gladness. An Orange rose represents fascination and enthusiasm. Finally, the pink rose means grace and gentility.
