Mozart 10 Review

Mozart 10 is a rapid music entry software program; so through keyboard entry, piano keyboard entry, or through a connected MIDI keyboard notes appear on screen.  Notes are automatically aligned parallel and bar lines appear automatically, as well.  Hyphens, underscores, notes, accidentals, and dots also align automatically, as well.  However, the user does have the option to offset rests and notes.  Currently, Mozart 10 Music Notation Software can import MIDI files and NIFF files; therefore, it can work with some scanning software.

Editing your scores is easy and can be done with a touch of the mouse.  The Mozart 10 software package also has the ability to insert re-pitch notes, change octaves, convert between notes and tests, alter notes chromatically; and replace a note enharmonically.  However, there are pre-designed templates that must be used with Mozart 10. 

There is printing and playback functions available with the Mozart 10 Notation software, as well.  Users will be utilizing True Type Musical symbols font when they print out their scores.  This is a professional font available to Window users only.  Playback allows users to hear their music in a professional and easy way with just a press of a button.  Playback modes can be straight or adopt one of the varieties of jazz “swing” styles.  The Mozart software moves your cursor along the music to show progress when you are listening; a great feature for those wanting to edit their work. 

There are several toolbars available to help users navigate through the software program, there is an access to standard Window functions including cutting, pasting, copying, as well as, saving and opening files.  As well, there are toolbars to select note and rest duration, dynamics, hairpins, and note head styles.  There is also an alternative toolbar with keyboard shortcuts for note durations.  There are tooltips to help those that aren’t familiar with the software, as well.  As with other window programs, the user has the ability to automatically save their material if they wish to do so.

There is a free trial available now at The Mozart Shop; it’s a great way for those that just want to try the program to jump right in to creating their music.  For those that decide to purchase the software program, though- you’ll get off pretty cheap.  It’s only $131.93 for an individual copy; a little more for those wishing to use it at a school or business.  This includes all the features; but for those wanting more- there’s upgrades available, as well.
